Research objectives

The focus of my research is to find novel dietary means to reduce the risk of chronic disorders, such as type II diabetes, metabolic syndromes, and coronary heart disease; and to  study the mechanisms behind the interactions between dietary factors on cell systems, and genes affecting these diseases. In addition, we are investigating the anti-thrombotic properties of fruits and vegetables using in vitro and ex vivo systems.  Our research will provide novel insight into their effects of fruits and vegetables on cardiovascular health

Research work:

My scientific work has been published in over 135 original contributions and reviews, book chapters, editorials. My discovery of an anti-platelet factor in tomatoes has been patented internationally and a company, Provexis Limited, has been established in UK (www.provexis.com)and the product in now marketed by www.sircoheart.com. I have successfully supervised 20 PhD/MD students.
